the english as a second language (esl) program is designed for students whose native language is not english. its goals are to help students gain proficiency and confidence in the use of english and to prepare them for entry into academic or career programs. the course of study is based on an integrated skills approach with listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar components. fluency and accuracy in both spoken and written english are emphasized.

The primary goal of the ESL & Business Communications program at e.d.p. school is to help non-English speaking students gain proficiency and confidence in the use of the English language to prepare them for entry into advanced academic endeavors or career programs.
course units range from developing fluency in speaking and writing using basic english grammar through enhancing student’s grammatical skills while teaching business terms, business communication principles, and establishing written communication standards in preparation for the real-world workplace.
this course has two major components, an esl section, and a business communications component. it is divided into multiple units to allow students of various levels to acquire essential communication skills, both written and oral. it is important to emphasize that our esl program is designed for students whose native language is not english.
the business communications portion of the curriculum will cover many of the essential skills needed to conduct business in english. students will learn and practice business communications, learn about related terminology and vocabulary in various associated contexts as well as the essential skills required for business writing, oral presentations, and meetings.
finally, the “human relations” unit is designed to incorporate basic principles from the behavioral sciences which apply to help establish positive relationship building among individuals in a work setting. through readings, critical thinking/problem solving, writing, role-playing, and case studies, students will develop basic human relations skills essential to productive functioning in the modern workplace and beyond.
Students enrolled in the ESL & Business Communications program will learn to:
improve their oral and listening english skills.

understand american business english vocabulary and terminology, idioms, expressions, slang, business collocations, and proverbs.
be familiar with and comfortable using written business communication, such as memos, letters, emails, reports, and proposals.

review grammar structures of particular significance in the business context.
explain and identify human relations.
